The Protections of Covenant

God knew that humans were unable to always keep their end of the covenant agreement, so He put in protections and safeguards to help. He always sought to preserve the life of His covenant partners and prosper them in spite of themselves. God provided a number of helps and assurances to them, such as protections from fear, oppression, and lack of resources. God also provided a way for humans to worship and to serve Him.

Protection from Fear

God repeatedly tells man not to fear because He has his back. That is the job of the covenant partner, to look out for his partner and to commit all of his own personal resources to the job. He models Himself as the protector of His covenant partner. The promise to be a shield in Genesis 15:1 implies the warding off of danger.

Genesis 15:1

After these things the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.

God provides a solid sense and foundation of security, saying that He will strengthen, help, and uphold His covenant partners in Isaiah 41:10.

Isaiah 41:10

Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

In Revelation 1:17-18, God also gives the assurance that He is not going anywhere and that He will always be available to hold up His side of the covenant, no matter what.

Revelation 1:17-18

And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

Protection from Oppression

God guarantees that He will establish His partners in righteousness or right standing. This means that He will forgive and cover our sins and shortfalls. He assures us of freedom from oppression, fear, and terror in Isaiah 54:14.

Isaiah 54:14

In righteousness shalt thou be established: thou shalt be far from oppression; for thou shalt not fear: and from terror; for it shall not come near thee.

Protection from Lack

God also promises that His partners will not have lack or be without food and that all levels of provision will be supplied according to Philippians 4:19.

Philippians 4:19 (MSG)

You can be sure that God will take care of everything you need, his generosity exceeding even yours in the glory that pours from Jesus.

Protection to Serve in Health

God made provision for humans to serve Him with blessings, unity, and honor in Zephaniah 3:9 and John 12:26.

Zephaniah 3:9

For then will I turn to the people a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of the Lord, to serve him with one consent.

John 12:26

If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.

God not only gives us healing for our spirits, He also takes disease away according to Exodus 23:25. Jesus took beatings and wounds on his body in 1 Peter 2:24, taking sickness and disease on Himself, so we could have physical healing in our bodies.

Exodus 23:25 (BBE)

And give worship to the Lord your God, who will send his blessing on your bread and on your water; and I will take all disease away from among you.

1 Peter 2:24 (GNT)

Christ himself carried our sins in his body to the cross, so that we might die to sin and live for righteousness. It is by his wounds that you have been healed.

Some of these promises may not be present in your life. Maybe none of them are. Either way, the validity of the covenant promises are not negated. They are acquired by faith through the understanding of who God is and what He has promised. They are not automatic, but they are guaranteed.

However, there is a condition.

You must be a covenant partner to receive the promises.
