God offers to solve man’s sin problem through love, not rules.
The world has a sin problem. Everyone knows it. Even those that deny that God exists know it. They know it because the concept of right and wrong or good and evil is hard-wired into our very being. This awareness is instinctive in all of mankind, including the occasional sociopath who chooses only to act out evil. We all know the difference between good and evil. The very act of choosing to do evil or wrong rather than good or right means that the individual at the very least sins against his or her own awareness of the two. However, sin goes much deeper than this.
We have already seen that God tells us in Deuteronomy 30:19 that we have options and that there is a choice that we must make. God encourages us to choose life, His Life.
Deuteronomy 30:19 (NIV)
This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live.
Sin controls much of the world culture as it works overtime in our society to be accepted as normal. It will always try to justify itself. It will always try to make the individual feel good about engaging in it by advocating for acceptance and tolerance. No manner of rule or law will be able to legislate sin out of the world system or the human spirit. Legislation may provide justification or comfort, but regardless of acceptance by society or the establishment of laws of tolerance of any sin by moral redefinition or diversity, wrong is still wrong and evil is still evil. God has absolutes.
The societies of Sodom and Gomorrah as well as others throughout history have succumbed to the acceptance of sin, evil, and wrongdoing as normal to their own peril. The universal acceptance of sin does not make it go away. It just erodes the spirit of man.
Many religions work overtime to expose things that they define as sin and demand varying levels of disapproval, condemnation, retribution, and punishment to discourage those acts. Some kill or maim if there is disobedience. Others force massive amounts of guilt on their members to persuade them to be obedient. Still others even sell forgiveness of sins.
The difference between religions and God is vast. Religions purport to represent God, but they are man’s attempt to put a framework around God and compartmentalize Him. Worse yet, they are hijacked by men in the name of God. Corrupted man institutes religion and sets the rules in an effort to dominate and control other men. Religion requires a high price for redemption from sins through specific actions of strict obedience, submission, financial investment and, in the extreme, murder of those who do not agree with it. However, God is outside the bounds of our human experience and understanding. He has made a way for communication with man to solve his sin problem.
Religions demand adherence, but God provided free will to man who can choose to accept or reject Him. God offers to solve man’s sin problem through love, not rules. He did put rules in place for the purpose of getting man to understand the depth of the depravity of his sin and the degree to which it pervades every aspect of his existence. He put the laws in place not to demand obedience but to convince man that he could not fix the sin problem himself. He made it clear to man that he needed help, God’s help, which He provides with love and forgiveness through Jesus.
Because God loves man, He provides this help at no charge. God wants man to want Him. He wants man to acknowledge his sin problem, reach out and receive His solution. God’s nature and character is not to demand, but to offer. It is not to condemn, but to set free. It is not to punish, but to forgive. Man and his religions demand, condemn, and punish, but God offers freedom and forgiveness through His own Son to clear the path and make a way for you.
Realization of these facts breaks down the barriers that sin creates and opens the door to deeper understanding of who God is and what is character and nature is.
Jesus will set you free if you let Him !
