Recently, I received a comment from a website blog reader.
She called herself Liar, and wrote:
"I have ruined my relationship with the Lord of life by selfishness and pride, many sins – sexual sins. Now I live in a constant state of damnation, already judged and condemned, but still on earth, so far for no good reason, a prisoner.
I can't turn back time and undo my sins. A wasted life. Trusting and obeying is what God cares about. I knew what was wrong and did it anyway, like a fool! Jesus calls people fools. I am one and have no alibi and don't know what do but accept the verdict: proud, self centered Pharisee guilty of all crimes. A living and dying hell. Forgiven once, but eternal consequences.
Ms. Big Stuff who (had) it "her" way. Pig! Once saved, not always saved. No one cares. God hates me."
God does not hate you, God LOVES you!
I will not refer to you as Liar, because that is not who you are. You have just been deceived by your enemy, much like Eve was in the garden.
You appear to be suffering the pain of guilt for your actions and condemnation for that guilt. This pain and condemnation is not issued by God, it is stirred up and magnified by your true enemy, Satan, whose goal is to keep you from receiving the forgiveness that God continues to offer you through Jesus.
How could Jesus not continue to forgive you when He told Peter to forgive someone who sinned against him 490 times in a day?
Matthew 18:21-23 from the Good News translation
Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, "Lord, if my brother keeps on sinning against me, how many times do I have to forgive him? Seven times?" "No, not seven times," answered Jesus, "but seventy times seven, because the Kingdom of heaven is like this."
Jesus told Peter that the kingdom of heaven was like that – one of continuous forgiveness.
However, it is not an easy thing to overcome the layers of guilt that you heap upon yourself because of your actions. Each time you fall into sin, the next one becomes easier to indulge. Eventually, your heart can become seared with complacency and resignation that all is lost.
This is a lie from the pit of Hell!
If you are still alive, there is still time to repair your relationship with God through His mercy. His mercy for you is renewed every day!
Lamentations 3:22-23 from the King James Version
It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
Only you can prevent God from forgiving you. In order to prevent God from offering you forgiveness through Jesus, you must reject Him. He will not reject you!
The choice is yours.
A woman was brought to Jesus. She was caught in the act of adultery by people who wanted Him to condemn her and sentence her to stoning. Jesus heard the arguments that they spoke against the woman and then proceeded to convict the accusers of their own sin. They walked away in shame. Then Jesus turned his attention to the woman.
John 8:10-11 from the King James Version
When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?
She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
This woman was moments from a painful death by stoning, but Jesus forgave and restored her. She received His forgiveness. (We’ll save the “religious” and social double standard that brought no accusation against the man for another time.)
The First Step is TRUST.
Trust that God’s Word is TRUE, and you know that His Word is true, because you feel it in your spirit.
Two criminals that were given the death penalty were crucified on either side of Jesus. One reviled Jesus, the other sought His forgiveness.
Luke 23:39-43 from GOD'S WORD translation
One of the criminals hanging there insulted Jesus by saying, "So you're really the Messiah, are you? Well, save yourself and us!"
But the other criminal scolded him: "Don't you fear God at all? Can't you see that you're condemned in the same way that he is? Our punishment is fair. We're getting what we deserve. But this man hasn't done anything wrong."
Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you enter your kingdom."
Jesus said to him, "I can guarantee this truth: Today you will be with me in paradise."
The criminal was saved on his “deathbed” because he trusted Jesus.
The Second Step is to ACCEPT His forgiveness through Jesus who paid the penalty for your sin.
The true penalty of sin is death. Death, also known as the “shedding of blood”, is the only way to pay the price of sin. Jesus did that on your behalf and your only responsibility is to accept His act and Truth for you. That is what the criminal did and it is called FAITH.
However, the biggest problem that most of us face is not trusting in the forgiveness of God through Jesus. Our greatest challenge is our ability to forgive ourselves for our own sins and shortcomings. We knew it was wrong when we did it and we did it anyway. With that level of callous disregard of God, you will have a hard time finding a way to forgive yourself. If you think that way, you can’t accept that you are worthy of His forgiveness.
The Third Step is to SPEAK your commitment with your mouth.
Your words are powerful. Your words got you into the mess of sin that continues to condemn you. Your words will relieve you of that burden. However, it is YOUR CHOICE to change all of that and speak words of Faith.
Romans 10:8-11 from GOD'S WORD translation
It's in your mouth and in your heart." This is the message of faith that we spread. If you declare that Jesus is Lord, and believe that God brought him back to life, you will be saved.
By believing you receive God's approval, and by declaring your faith you are saved. Scripture says, "Whoever believes in him will not be ashamed."
The Fourth Step is to FORGIVE yourself.
If you do not forgive yourself for your sins, you are essentially saying to God, “I am not forgiven.” In order to truly receive complete and lasting forgiveness, you must treat sin the way that God does. He does not treat you according to what you deserve for your sin. You see, once God forgives you, and puts your sin under the redemption of Jesus, He separates your sin from His awareness.
This is not something that is easy for us humans to accept, however. We make statements like, “I’ll forgive you, but I will never forget what you did!” Unlike humans, God forgets your sin. As a matter of fact, He separates it from Himself as far as East is from West.
Psalms 103:10-12 from GOD'S WORD translation
He has not treated us as we deserve for our sins or paid us back for our wrongs. As high as the heavens are above the earth—that is how vast his mercy is toward those who fear him. As far as the east is from the west—that is how far he has removed our rebellious acts from himself.
This sounds really great, but how many of us really know what this means. The use of East and West is on purpose. If you continue to travel in the direction of North on our globe, you will eventually reach the North Pole, and if you continue to travel without changing direction, you will begin to travel South, toward the South Pole. North - South travel continues and repeats itself. North meets south and South meets North.
However, if you travel East, you will never be traveling West and if you travel West, you will never be traveling East. East never meets West and West never meets East.
East from West — that is what God does with your sin after He forgives you.
The Fifth Step is to RENEW your mind to the new condition of your spirit and soul.
In Jesus, you are a new creature. You have a re-created spirit living within your existing body, your Earth Suit. Your body retains the memory of your past deeds, but your new spirit does not.
2 Corinthians 5:17 from the King James Version
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
To renew your mind, you need to begin to think differently. “The Power of Positive Thinking” has been applied to business success for many years, and it works because it is based on God’s Word. The King James Version refers to this process as the “renewing” of your mind, but the Contemporary English Version refers to it as changing “the way you think.”
Romans 12:1-2 from the Contemporary English Version
Dear friends, God is good. So I beg you to offer your bodies to him as a living sacrifice, pure and pleasing. That's the most sensible way to serve God. Don't be like the people of this world, but let God change the way you think. Then you will know how to do everything that is good and pleasing to him.
No one can make this change for you, you must do it yourself. This is where one of the biggest challenges comes. Your Earth Suit retains its memory of your sins, and everyone around you who continues to see your Earth Suit remembers your sins as well. They can’t see your renewed spirit and when you look in the mirror, you can’t see it either, unless you have renewed and keep renewing your mind.
Ephesians 4:22-24 from the Good News Translation
So get rid of your old self, which made you live as you used to — the old self that was being destroyed by its deceitful desires. Your hearts and minds must be made completely new, and you must put on the new self, which is created in God's likeness and reveals itself in the true life that is upright and holy.
This is the action that you must take on your own. It is a Quality Decision, one that requires effort because it must overcome the memory of your Earth Suit.
Colossians 3:8-11 from the Good News Translation
But now you must get rid of all these things: anger, passion, and hateful feelings. No insults or obscene talk must ever come from your lips. Do not lie to one another, for you have put off the old self with its habits and have put on the new self. This is the new being which God, its Creator, is constantly renewing in his own image, in order to bring you to a full knowledge of himself.
Reminding yourself of God’s word helps you to renew yourself on a daily basis. As you do, you will find it easier and easier to put your past behind you as you convince yourself of the truth of God’s mercy and forgiveness for you. This leads us to step six.
The Sixth Step is to LEARN.
Jesus implores us to educate ourselves.
Matthew 11:28-30 from the King James Version
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
There is only one way to become educated in the things of God and learn who Jesus is and what God’s character is. You must study His Word, the Bible. God’s Words are the source of life and health. They are the only way to truly renew your mind.
Proverbs 4:20-23 from the Contemporary English Version
My child, listen carefully to everything I say. Don't forget a single word, but think about it all. Knowing these teachings will mean true life and good health for you. Carefully guard your thoughts because they are the source of true life.
This is how you renew your mind to the new condition of your spirit and soul. Through trust in His Word, you can make this change in how you think about yourself. It is most beneficial to stay in touch with God on a daily basis and allow His Word to speak to you in all of your daily circumstances.
2 Corinthians 4:16-17 from the God’s Word Translation
That is why we are not discouraged. Though outwardly we are wearing out, inwardly we are renewed day by day.
It is not too late to receive your forgiveness and renew your mind. Not until you have drawn your last breath!
